For all who have read my blog this past year, I’d like to wish you a Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year. This will likely be my last blog of the year and I’d like to share with you a recipe for Irish Bread.
My mother-in-law made Irish breads for all occasions It wasn’t a traditional Irish Soda bread, but a sweet bread with raisins and caraway seeds. The recipe came from her mother-in-law. When I asked for the recipe, she produced a piece of paper with measurements of a tea cup full of this, a fist full of that and cook until done. I spent time with her and as she put ingredients in her bowl, I’d stop and measure it to come up with a recipe. It wasn’t until I began doing genealogy and researching in Ireland that I realized that this was the traditional bread set out on Christmas Eve, along with the candle and milk so Mary and Joseph, or any other traveler would be welcome.
So here is my Christmas gift to you…
Happy Hunting!
